R. Kelly Accused Of Bribery, Judge Denies Delay Request
As jury selections for the R. Kelly sex trial began today, new claims surfaced that an aide to Kelly allegedly paid off a woman to get her to return an incriminating sex videotape featuring the Grammy Award winning singer.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, last month Judge Vincent Gaughan held four closed-door hearings and was told that the Atlanta woman, who is expected to testify that she had a three-way sexual encounter with Kelly and the suspected underage girl at the center of his child porn trial, was allegedly paid by Kelly's aide to recover a sex tape featuring Kelly. It is unclear how much the aide allegedly paid the woman, but the woman did receive payment and arranged for the tape to be delivered to the aide.
The Atlanta woman was granted immunity from state and federal prosecution in exchange for her testimony. Federal immunity was provided to protect the woman from charges of transporting child pornography across state lines. Sources revealed the woman had been in love with Kelly.

R. Kelly pornography trial "JURY SELECTION"
Jury selection was set to start Friday in the long-delayed trial of one of urban music's biggest stars.
Grammy-winning R&B singer R. Kelly faces child pornography charges, prompted by a videotape allegedly showing him having sex with a girl as young as 13.
The trial has been delayed for six years and another delay was possible after defense attorneys filed a motion Wednesday seeking to postpone the trial again. Judge Vincent Gaughan could rule on that request Friday.
The reasons for the motion were being kept secret, but it came as publicity surrounding the case heats up and some media speculated about who might testify.
Prosecutors will have to surmount several hurdles if they hope to prevail.
Chief among them is that the alleged victim, now 23, says it wasn't her. And Kelly's lawyers — including prominent Chicago attorney Ed Genson — haven't admitted it's Kelly in the video.
The 41-year-old Kelly, who has pleaded not guilty, faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
The centerpiece of the trial is the video footage, which Gaughan ruled may be shown in open court.
Prosecutors claim the videotape was made sometime between Jan. 1, 1998, and Nov. 1 2000, and that the girl was born in September 1984. Kelly was indicted on pornography charges June 5, 2002, after the tape surfaced.

DMX Arrested
CAVE CREEK, Ariz. -- Rapper DMX has been arrested on charges of racing on a highway after speed cameras on a Phoenix-area freeway caught him going 114 miles an hour, Arizona Department of Public Safety officers said.
DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was taken into custody on Tuesday at his Cave Creek home and booked on charges of racing on a highway, reckless driving, two counts of endangerment and three counts of criminal speed and driving on a suspended license.

Now, people can take the "alleged" out of the sentence. The couple has confirmed reports that the two stars held their wedding in late April.

Weezy Baby pleads "NOT GUILTY"
Lil Wayne appeared in an Arizona Superior Court today to face drug charges he recieved back in January. Wayne pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of dangerous drugs, possession of a narcotic drug for sale, misconduct involving weapons and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Wayne was arrested on January 22nd after DEA agents stopped his tour bus in southwestern Arizona. A border patrol dog alerted the agents to the presence of drugs and a search followed that uncovered 41 grams of ecstasy, four ounces of marijuana, a little over an ounce of cocaine and a .40 caliber pistol, which is registered to Lil Wayne in Florida. Wayne's next court date is May 19.

Yung Joc's new Label Deal and Sunglasses line
Yung Joc recently announced that he started his own record label called Swagg Team Entertainment. The new label will be through Jive Records and will see the debut from Chicago group Hotstylz. Joc discovered the group, who has the internet hit "Lookin' Boy," by accident when DJ Hershey simply downloaded their music and gave it to Joc. The new version and video for "Lookin' Boy" closely follows Hotstylz orignal clip and will hit the air on May 12th.
Joc is also expanding into other businesses. Yung Joc owns two automobile related companies and he is currently working on starting a new line of sunglasses called Claudio St. James. The collection will be a partnership between Joc and his father and will be released independently of any existing fashion or eyewear line.

R&B/Pop singer Chris Brown covers this month’s issue of Ebony where he makes no apologies for being ‘grown and sexy.’
Brown sat down for an exclusive interview with the magazine to discuss his musical growth, sex and the women in his life including Rihanna. When asked about dating Brown says “I date sometimes. If I ever had a girlfriend, it’d always be a problem. Fans want you to be attainable. I try to stay away from even having a girl. I go on dates, talk to a couple chicks on the phone.”
Chris Brown and Rihanna have been the subject of dating rumors for sometime now however, Brown insists they are just friends.

Lil Wayne is getting ready for his new album, Tha Carter III, to be released on June 10th. Tour plans are on the mind of Weezy now. Wayne was talking to 50 Cent & G-Unit to go on tour after his album was released but now Wayne is changing his mind. "Um, that one, I don't think is gonna work no more, It was something that ain't went right." Lil Wayne said, speaking about the tour with G-Unit.
Wayne told MTV News that "I think I might go out with Keyshia Cole. You're bringing two different types of people in there. You got people coming to soothe their souls with Keyshia, and you got people who wanna throw their hands up with me. It's like listening to the radio. I think a concert should be like listening to the radio. When you listen to the radio, and your top-five or top-eight songs come on, it's hip-hop, it's R&B. ... I think you gonna get that from me and Keyshia and whatever in between that."

50 Cent discuss BIG BUSINESS MOVES with Billionaire Patrice Motsepe in South Africa
Billionaire Patrice Motsepe is using star power in his quest to get South Africa's young people involved in mining. He and U.S. rap star 50 Cent are set to join forces in a major deal to benefit the Country's youth. Although no details have been released yet, it has been established that they are in talks to launch a project that will encourage young South Africans to develop an interest in mining.
50 Cent-Real name Curtis Jackson- told Business Times that he has had his eye on Motsepe since spotting him on the cover of Forbes Magazine a few months ago.
Motsepe took time out this week to attend the popular rapper's concert at the Dome, north of Johannesburg where they chatted in a private suite before the performance. On Friday, the mining magnate took 50 Cent to several mines Mpumalanga, where they chatted with the Chiefs of various villages who hold an interest in some of the Company's aspirations. And in a first for 50 Cent, the two also went down the mine at Two Rivers Platinum in Mpumalanga- an experience the artist thought was "hot."
Then, late on Friday they travelled together in Motsepe's private jet to Cape Town, where the artist was scheduled to perform the second half of the South African tour.
J-HOOD apologizes to The L.O.X.
Over six months later, this morning, J Hood, through a publicist, has penned a letter explaining his rationale, as well as apologizing to his former mentors and D-Block peers.
"First of all I personally would like to apologize to all the real fans out there, all the true hip-hop heads, and lyric followers for my role playing in this whole ordeal because it's honestly something that you shouldn't have had to witness..." begins the letter.
The letter goes on to say that the issues began primarily with Sheek, and J Hood waved off qualms with Styles and Jadakiss repeatedly in interviews. The rapper adds that his own success would've given the trio greater longevity in the game, for the ability to successfully brand a new artist. He continues, "I will eternally be appreciative to The L.O.X. for giving me an opportunity to be heard period point blank but I just couldn't keep living with the fact of knowing I'm representing something false, on top of not even being compensated well for it."
After tracing various points and mixtape pokes made by both parties, Hood appears to be working towards resolution: "I know they didn't mean a lot of the things they said and their words were just used as a defense mechanism to protect their image, so before I end this statement, I just want to wish them the best at whatever they are doing now and in their future ventures, hopefully we can work out our differences...My mission is not to beef, but instead to do everything In my power to contribute to shifting the game back to the east coast."
In early March, Sheek said, "I would never, ever fuck with 'Hood again in my life. I would never do business with him, I would never get back with him. I think he’s a talented dude, I think if he get his head together he could still go on to do big things with his life and God Bless him, but he’s a faggot as far as the way he’s going about shit."

Beyonce Joins Jay-Z Onstage At NYC Heart Of The City Show

Jay-Z was voted the greatest MC of all time and Mary J. Blige is the greatest R&B singer of our generation, so when they call themselves "the Heart of the City," they're really repping Anytown, U.S.A. If you love hip-hop and/or R&B, you've more than likely been enamored with Jigga and MJB at certain points, if not throughout their careers.
The box-office receipts are indicating that their fanbases (both individually and collectively) aren't waning. Their joint-headline venture is selling out across the land, and even though the duo played a show in New Jersey several weeks back, on Friday Jay and Mary finally made it to their city, NYC. Who has meant more to the Apple than Jay and Mary? There's a short list of artists that have arguably had just as significant an impact, but a pair who have meant more? That's a tough one.
Jay and MJB have two sold-out dates coming up at Madison Square Garden. Friday's show was added last, and of course it was filled to the brim. Women and men. The 'hood and Hollywood. Young and long in the tooth. Grimy rapper Uncle Murda and cleaner-than-a-preacher-on-Sunday celebrity Oprah Winfrey. Everyone came out to the show.
With fans including Jodie Foster, Naomi Campbell and Justin Timberlake in attendance, Hov and the Queen did what they do: electrify with an endless array of hit records.
During Jay-Z's solo set, he has a part where he shows off. Jay literally sits in the DJ booth and pushes buttons to cue up instrumentals of classics like "Money Ain't a Thang," "Who You Wit" and "Hard Knock Life." "F--- that," Jay yelled every time he played a song, cutting it off within seconds of bringing it up. Humorously, he started " '03 Bonnie & Clyde" and just like before, he stopped it after a second. "F--- that," he said with a grin. Then Hov pulled up Beyoncé's "Crazy in Love" and, you guessed it, said, "F--- that too. ... No disrespect."
But almost immediately, Beyoncé came onstage, walking with a sassy "how dare you" strut. Jay started "Crazy in Love" again, and B did her crowd-pleasing "uh oh" dance. She walked over to Jay, did a spin, smiled and went backstage. Jay doubled over laughing.
The Heart of the City Tour hits Atlantic City, New Jersey, Monday night (May 5) and returns to New York May 6 and 7.

Lil Wayne To Star In Sports Film 'Patriots'

Lil Wayne will star in the Weinstein Co.'s sports film "Patriots"
alongside Forest Whitaker and Bow Wow. The rapper will
play a character named Lamont, a student from a New Orleans high school who is skeptical of the school's new basketball team.
"Wayne went from a supporting role to a major role in the movie because
he read so well," Universal's vice president of marketing Katina Bynum
tells Billboard.com. "We're all very excited and looking forward to it,
especially since they reached out to him for this positive role as
opposed to a stereotypical one."
"Patriots" is based on a true story about a high school basketball team
whose players attend five different high schools until Hurricane
Katrina leads them to come together and reach the state championships.
The flick, directed by Tim Story, began filming in New Orleans this
week. It is slated to be in theaters November 2008.
Lil Wayne's latest single "Lollipop" currently sits in the No. 2 spot on The Billboard Hot 100.
Football star interviewed about shooting in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA - Indianapolis Colts star receiver Marvin Harrison was interviewed by police about a shooting near his north Philadelphia car wash this week.
Lt. Frank Vanore said the investigation of Tuesday's shooting was continuing. Harrison has not been arrested or charged.
"He was interviewed," Vanore said Friday. "Why he was interviewed, that is all part of the investigation. No one is a suspect."
Vanore told WCAU-TV the shooting occurred near 25th and Thompson streets, near a car wash owned by Harrison and about a half-mile from a bar also owned by the All-Pro receiver.
Radio station WIP, citing unidentified sources, reported that the shooting victim argued with Harrison at Playmakers bar.
The victim left and headed to his car, Harrison followed and gunfire broke out, the station reported.
The victim was shot in the hand and did not identify the shooter, according to the radio station.
Varone also said a child was hit in the eyes by broken glass, but was treated and released from a hospital.
Harrison, a prep football star at Philadelphia's Roman Catholic High, has owned Playmakers since July 2004, according to state records.
Harrison's agent, Tom Condon, denied the player was involved in the shooting.
"I've spoken with Marvin and I've spoken with his attorney, and they say the reports are erroneous," Condon told ESPN. "Marvin was not involved in any shooting, and he is not the subject of this investigation."
After the first day of the team's rookie minicamp, Colts coach Tony Dungy said he knew little more than had been reported.
"My phone has been ringing, too, but I don't have any details," Dungy said. "I really don't have any more information than you do."
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league is aware of the report and is looking into it.

Mr. Kelly may be the one getting screwed this time. A woman is set to testify at R. Kelly's upcoming child pornography trial, revealing that she had a threesome with Kelly and the allegedly underage girl shown in the infamous video.
Sources tell the Chicago Sun-Times that the new witness will not only testify that she was underage when she had the threesome with Kelly -- but that the other girl involved is the exact same person who is now identified as the alleged victim.
Prosecutors claim to have identified the girl in the videotape -- who is now in her 20s. She denies it's her on the tape. She will take the stand in the trial as well.
Jury selection for the trial begins Friday. Both sides declined to comment, citing a gag order in the case
Tribut to Static Major
More than two months after his death, producer Static Major’s(born Stephen Garrett) presence on the music scene continues to be felt, as the producer's fellow entertainers gather to pay tribute to his memory and influence. The event, organized by Static Major’s wife Avonti, will take place Sunday, May 4th at the City Block venue in Static Major's hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Invited celebrity guests include rappers Lil Wayne, Missy Elliott, Timbaland, Dem Franchize Boyz and Pretty Ricky.
Static Major died February 25, 2008 at the age of 33 from complications from a medical procedure.

The tribute event comes amid the success of Static Major’s latest collaboration on the Lil’ Wayne single "Lollipop." The song, which the singer wrote, currently sits at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Tracks charts and No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Despite "Lollipop" ending up with Lil’ Wayne, the track was originally penned for Dem Franchize Boyz. After the group missed the chance to acquire the song, Kadife Sylvester, a close friend of Static Major, shopped a demo of "Lollipop" to Lil’ Wayne, who took a liking to the track after hearing it. Sources have reported that Static Major’s death will not prevent the singer’s forthcoming album from hitting stores this year.
The OG music/Blackground Records/Universal release, titled Suppertime, will feature the lead single "I Got My" feat. Lil Wayne. Other artists slated to appear on Suppertime include Dem franchize Boyz, Project Pat and Missy Elliott. In addition to the album, a DJ Khaled mixtape featuring all of Static Major's hits will be released.

G-Unit is on a global promotion campain and has been traveling heavily in Europe and Africa. The rumor is that 50 Cent's chain was snachted and the robber ran out at a show in Angola yesterday.
While G-unit preformed a fan came on stage to hug 50. As he was quickly rejected and told to get off stage but before he did he reached out and snatched the chain off
50’s neck and rode out. Apparently security went looking for him however the robber got away.

Rick Ross Ready to Release Next Single
Miami, FL. – After the huge success of his sophomore album, "Trilla", and the nationwide acclaim that both his two commercial singles achieved, Rick Ross is apparently ready to release his third single. J.R. Mixshow was able to acquire some information on Ross' next chart topper. Mixshow stated that Ross is now ready to release the track "Here I Am" after the successful response that both "Speedin" and "The Boss" received.
The track 'Here I Am' is produced by the talents of Drumma Boy featuring the vocals of Avery Storm and the catchy lyrical flow of St. Louie's own Nelly. With a timid R&B feel, the track contains samples of Stevie Wonder's "Lately". Avery adds a real upbeat tempo flow on the hook as both Nelly and Ross detail a storyline within their lyrics. The single will be release any day to radio stations throughout the country.

The Game and Suge Knight Chop It Up On Set of 'The Pain'
According to RealTalk, everything was calm on set. Everyone lounging and Suge Knight pulled up with just 2 guys with him. So both men walk to the side with their entourage and then Suge and Game go off in the corner and talked for a good 15 minutes. There definitely wasn’t any tension and after Suge Knight roamed the set in a good mood. I don’t even think Suge is in the video, he just came out to show support and talk with The Game. Hopefully more Hip Hop figures can let grudges go focus on making music.
These two men were known to have beef due to Yukmouth stating that Suge Knight slapped Game. Game responded by saying if Suge touched him he would be six feet under. It was reported a member from Death Row tried to rob The Game for his chain and Game also released, “My Bitch,” which had a third verse throwing shots at Suge. The West Coast had a, “Peace Treaty,” event to end all beefs that Suge didn’t attend.

T.I. Insists 'No Matter What' Is Only Partly About Shawty Lo
All T.I. wanted was to have his say. A few days ago, he finally got a chance to express himself and reflect on what he's been weathering over the past several months when he released "No Matter What," the first track from his upcoming Paper Trail album.
"I would say I recorded it probably around the holidays or January, something like that," Tip said of the song. "[That was] when the hate was real fresh and I was counted out by most.
"I see things, hear things, observe things," he added. "When I sat down to write it, all those things, the things that seemed most important, just came out. I didn't intentionally write about one thing or another; I just wrote from the heart [about] the things that stuck with me throughout the ordeal, what I had seen on the news. It just came out at the time."
"God will take you through hell, just to get you to heaven," T.I. raps on the song. "Even though it's heavy, the load I will carry/ Grin and still bare it/ Win and still share it/ Even when winning's illogical, losing's still far from optional."
"There will definitely be more records like that," Tip said about what to expect on Paper Trail. "You know how usually on the album, I'll do one record like 'I Still Luv You' [or] 'Still Ain't Forgave Myself'? It's gonna be significantly more of those [types of records] on this album. I guess you could say there are definitely more songs that are just as introspective, just as personal, just as well-written."
While the song is very emotional, Tip has also sparked some conversation online about his references to fellow ATL rep Shawty Lo. "I don't think [there are] as many references as people think," the King of the South said. "Only the obvious one in the first verse."
In the single, T.I. directly referenced one of Lo's catchphrases, "Let's get, get, get it" from "Dey Know," in the single. He was retaliating for what he calls Shawty's ongoing subliminal jabs at him (listen to Lo's "Dun Dun" for an example). On "No Matter What," Tip spits, "[I] set the standard in Atlanta of how to 'get, get, get it'/ So you up-and-coming rappers wanna dis, just kill it/ I'm officially the realest, point-blank, period."
But one verse from T.I.'s new song really set off speculation: "They couldn't wait to say, 'Good night, shawty'/ So they could try to rhyme, act and look like shawty/ Go get a beat from Toomp and make a hook like shawty/ Before you know it, I'm back/ What it look like, shawty?"
Tip insisted that he wasn't talking about Lo in those lines. "Just because I say 'shawty' — anybody who holds a conversation with me knows that 'shawty' is just in my vocabulary," he said. "I wasn't speaking to him throughout the record. I was speaking on people who took shots at me when I was down. He wasn't the only one; he was among the most consistent. But I'm focused on a greater goal. I'm not trippin' on that. Dude, that's not what's on my mind. I said what I had to say, and that's it. Whoever don't like it, so what?

After a bad review from Entertainment Weekly (see below) of Kanye's Glow In The Dark Tour, the Louis Vuitton Don went in on the mag via his blog with a post titled "FUCK ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY I'M SICK OF YALL SHIT!!!" along with the sentiments you are about to read.

Young Hov STEPS to the plate for Sean Bell's children!!
Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter has established an educational trust for the children of Sean Bell, the unarmed African-American man who was shot and killed by police on the day he was to be married.
Jay-Z is working closely with Nicole Paultre Bell, Sean Bell's widow, to institute the trust funds for both of their children.
Nicole Bell appeared prominently in Jay-Z’s Rocawear "I Will Not Lose" advertising campaign with images that caused indignation within the NYPD's Benevolent Association.
The process began prior to the not guilty verdict for three police officers accused of slaying Sean Bell.
A well-informed source close to the matter told an online Source, that Nicole Bell’s lawyers didn’t want to initiate any activity during the trial.
Now that the trial is over, Jay-Z will resume his efforts for the children of Sean Bell in the form of a stock-based trust fund.

Secretive newlyweds, Jay-Z and Beyonce, have settled a prenuptial agreement that could result in a $25 million payday for "Mrs. Carter." This news comes on the heels of Jigga's sealed Live Nation deal worth $150 Million.
According to the National Enquirer, Beyonce (born Beyonce Knowles) has inked a prenup deal with her new husband Jay-Z (born Shawn Carter) that could pay the R&B diva up to $25 million. Bey, 26, reported to be worth $100 million, will gain more money the longer she stays married to Jay. The prenup calls for Jay-Z to pay Beyonce $10 million if the marriage ends after two years, and a million a year for every extra year she remains in the marriage, up to 15-years.
In addition to cash payments the agreement also includes a few of Hov's prized possessions. According to the report, Beyonce would be granted access to their private jet and a fleet of cars, which includes a $1 million 1959 Rolls Royce convertible. Linda Cannon, an alleged Cannon family member, told E! Nick informed her of the news, "Yes, we know. He called us and told us all about it," she stated. "We are happy for him. If that is what he wants, then we are happy for him."
She added, "I'm not going to give you any details, but we are happy for him."

Alicia Keys recruiting backup singer via MySpace
Want to be a backup singer for Alicia Keys? The R&B star is inviting female singers who are aged 21 to 30 to "audition" via MySpace.
Hopefuls have until May 5 to submit a video, 30 seconds or longer, of themselves singing a capella to Keys' MySpace site (http://www.myspace.com/aliciakeys); according to a release. Ideal candidates "must be physically fit and able to dance."
There's no word yet on what portion of the "No One" singer's tour the backup singer would take part in; however, current dates run now through June 18, with more on the way.

Lil Wayne is constantly making moves in his career. Recently he signed on to co-star in a new major motion picture starring Forest Whitaker, called 'The Patriots'. The movie is about a basketball team that was made up of players from five different high schools before Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans. Lil Wayne will play a character named "Lamont," who is a student of Al Collins High School. "Lamont" is skeptical of the newly formed team.

Ludacris Talks New Album,
On set to being another impactful album to add to his collection, the DTP-front-man rapper looks to release Theater of the Mind this September. Not speaking vividly about the project, Ludacris did tell Billboard.com that it would be "theatrical" as it will focus on being a collection of his experiences up to this point.
Despite not having a first single chosen, he believes one will be coming out by June or July, Ludacris told Billboard. As of now, one track on the album is "Let's Stay Together" produced by DJ Paul from Three-6-Mafia.

Common Readies "Invincible Summer" For July Release
Roughly one year after releasing one of his most commercially successful and critically acclaimed albums, Common is ready for a change of direction. The Chicago native has his eyes on a mid-July release for his eighth album, which is tentatively titled Invincible Summer. After an eight-song preview of the upcoming work by Common himself, Billboard magazine described the sound as "electro-tinged" and "techno-inspired."
"I created this music for the summer time, it's about feeling good," says Common. "This is the type of music I felt was missing from my body of work."
While Kanye West and the late J. Madonna will be making her first appearance on BET's 106 & Park on Friday (May 2) to introduce the premiere of her new video "4 Minutes," which features Justin Timberlake and is produced by Timbaland.
"4 Minutes" is the lead single off of the pop star's new album Hard Candy, which is her last album for Warner Bros. Records. Her next album will be for Live Nation, as she signed a multi-million dollar deal with them similar to Jay-Z's.
The Material Girl seems to have taken the Hip Hop route, as Hard Candy also features production from Pharrell Williams, Danjahandz and Kanye West.
Madonna, who is nearly 50, will judge yoga poses and dance moves done by co-hosts Rosci and Terrance J.
